American percussionist Adam Rosenblatt thrives in the realms of contemporary chamber music and interdisciplinary performance. From 2012 to 2014, through grants from the Flemish Government, the Frank Huntington Beebe Fund, and the Belgian American Education Foundation, Adam performed and studied contemporary chamber music with the Ictus and Spectra Ensembles. He now appears as a regular guest with the Ictus ensemble, and has performed with Ictus in Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and France. Adam attended the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in 2011 and the Norfolk New Music Workshop in 2012, and participated in the Make Music New York festival in 2010 and the Tune-In Festival in 2011. He has performed in such diverse venues as Carnegie Hall with the Yale Percussion Group, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels with the Gent Advanced Master’s Ensemble (GAME), and the Arno Babajanian Concert Hall in Yerevan, Armenia with Sistema Armenia.

One of Adam’s primary interests is in interdisciplinary performance. This interest has led him to collaborate with dancers and choreographers on several occasions, including the “In Vivo Danse” workshop through IRCAM’s Manifeste festival, and in Rosas dance company’s production of “Drumming Live.” Additionally, Adam played an integral part in the creation and performance of the movement-based work “The Funerals,” with choreographer Andros Zins-Browne, musician Tom Pauwels, and students of the performance school PARTS. Adam also actively seeks opportunities to meld theater and contemporary music, which has led to his involvement in the creation and premiere of François Sarhan’s theatrical work “The Last Lighthouse Keepers” at the 2014 Borealis Festival in Norway, his participation in the 2013 Music Theater Now festival in Sweden, and performances in the Yale Repertory Theater’s 2012 production of William Shakespeare’s “A Winter’s Tale.”

Adam is a founding member of Sandbox Percussion and Sonar New Music Ensemble in the US, and Macadam Trio and V. Squad in Belgium. With these ensembles, Adam has premiered many works by emerging composers in venues such as Gare du Nord in Basel, Het Veem in Amsterdam, the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, and Q-O2 in Brussels. He continues to keep the creation of new works and collaborations with composers among his highest priorities, having had the great fortune in past years to work closely with such composers as David Lang, Thierry de Mey, Martin Bresnick, and James Wood.

Adam also devotes much of his energy to introducing contemporary music to young people in creative ways. He has collaborated extensively with the Belgian presenter Zonzo Compagnie, participating in their “music rooms” program and in their “Big Bang Festival” in Lisbon, Brussels, Lille, and Gent. As an extension of these productions, Adam has co-created and led interactive body percussion workshops for children in Antwerp, Belgium, and recently in Yerevan, Armenia. In Armenia, for the past two summers, Adam has been a faculty member for the El Sistema-inspired Sistema Armenia music education program. In 2014, through Sistema Armenia, Adam assisted in leading rhythm and movement workshops for the United World College in Dilijan, Armenia, and for the National Center for Aesthetic’s “Small Theater” in Yerevan.

Adam earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Peabody Conservatory and a Master of Music Degree from the Yale School of Music, both under the tutelage of Robert van Sice.
