LOST COWBOY
The irony of bowed instruments is that they are both the agents of the most demanding tradition of "pure music" (the string quartet) and heir to the populat tradition, the rural style, violin music to dance to. The razor-sharp, crisp sound of the fiddle, the ringing out of the open strings, improvisation on the fly is what is on offer from the Ictus String Quartet. The evening features a deft medley where the young Norwegian Øyvind Torvund cross-fertilises the duos of Bartók, Dillon & Berio, along with the quintessentially Americans dances of John Adams for string quartet and pre-recorded rhythms.

De strijkers gelden paradoxaal genoeg ze als de bewakers van de meest hoogstaande kunstmuziek, anderzijds zijn ze het medium van volksmuziek, de leden van een balorkest. Het is die klank van de 'fiddle', scherp en krokant, het bespelen van de open snaren, de improvisatie van het moment, die in dit programma wordt uitgespeeld.

Paradoxe des instruments à archet : ils sont à la fois les agents de la plus exigeante tradition de "musique pure" (le quatuor à cordes) et les dépositaires de la tradition populaire, du jeu paysan, du violon de bal. C'est ce son du fiddle, acide et croquant, ce son de cordes à vide et d'improvisation à l'arraché que nous fera goûter l'Ictus String Quartet. La soirée compose un habile medley où le jeune norvégien Øyvind Torvund croise les duos de Bartók, Dillon et Berio, ainsi que les danses américanissimes de John Adams pour quatuor à cordes et rythmes pré-enregistrés.
