We often think of musical instruments as tools. Instrument Room invites you to see them differently: as prostheses, sculptures, and bodies that encapsulate musical intelligence...

We bring together works by Svetlana Maraš (Serbia/Switzerland), Tristan Perich (USA), Maryanne Amacher (USA), Fabio Machiavelli (Italy) and Natasha Pirard (Belgium) in an immersive set-up.

The vast area of KANAL becomes a living space where the featured artists explore the interzone between contemporary music, sound art and experimental practice through self-built electro-mechanical instruments, resonant objects and spatial sound environments.

Here, composition and instrument design become inseparable, and listening becomes a physical experience. Instrument Room turns KANAL into a landscape of sound where visitors are invited to move freely through performances, installations and listening environments. Rather than unfolding on a single stage, the works are activated throughout the building, with instruments exhibited and performed, shifting between concert, sound installation and exhibition.

Er komt werk samen van Svetlana Maraš (Servië/Zwitserland/Griekenland), Tristan Perich (VS), Maryanne Amacher (VS), Fabio Machiavelli (Italië) en Natasha Pirard (België), in een immersieve opstelling.

Via zelfgebouwde elektromechanische instrumenten, resonerende objecten en ruimtelijke klankomgevingen verkennen de kunstenaars een interzone tussen hedendaagse muziek, geluidskunst en experimentele praktijk, in de enorme ruimtes van KANAL. Compositie en instrumentenbouw vallen samen, en luisteren wordt een lichamelijke ervaring. Instrument Room maakt van KANAL een landschap van klank, waarin bezoekers zich vrij kunnen bewegen tussen performances, installaties en luisteromgevingen. De werken ontvouwen zich niet op één podium, maar worden doorheen het gebouw geactiveerd, met instrumenten die zowel tentoongesteld als bespeeld worden en voortdurend verschuiven tussen concert, geluidsinstallatie en tentoonstelling.

Nous réunissons des œuvres de Svetlana Maraš (Serbie/Suisse/Grèce), Tristan Perich (États-Unis), Maryanne Amacher (États-Unis), Fabio Machiavelli (Italie) et Natasha Pirard (Belgique) dans une installation immersive, dans l'espace immense de KANAL.

À travers des instruments électromécaniques de leur propre fabrication, ou des objets résonnants, ou des environnements sonores dans l'espace, les artistes présentés explorent ici une interzone flottant quelque part entre musique contemporaine, art sonore et pratique expérimentale. La composition et la conception instrumentale procèdent du même geste, et l’écoute se transforme en expérience physique. « Instrument Room » fait de KANAL un paysage sonique au coeur duquel les visiteurs sont invités à se déplacer librement, entre performances, installations et espaces d’écoute. Plutôt que de se succéder sur une seule scène, les œuvres prennent vie dans tout le bâtiment, où les instruments sont exposés et joués. Tout à la fois un concert, une installation sonore et une exposition.
