Ictus and the new Friuli Venezia Giulia's Index Ensemble reunite again to reveal the full visionary amplitude of Fausto Romitelli’s oeuvre. Amok Koma, Seascape, and Trash TV Trance: three strange, climactic works composed at the turn of the millennium, when a new atmosphere was beginning to permeate classical music—at the volatile intersection of contemporary composition, computer music, and pop culture, like a pressure chamber on the verge of detonation.

Haunted by the world of David Lynch, the composer from Gorizia succeeded, at times, in capturing one of music’s most vertiginous gestures: the act of zooming into the substance of things until one encounters the noise of Being itself—always, in some measure, diabolical. Yet the physical energy, wild imagination, and appetite for surprise that animate Romitelli’s work place his aesthetic at the furthest possible remove from melancholy.

A kindred experience unfolds in Frederic Rzewski’s diptych Coming Together: a spoken incantation stretched over a spiralling, feverish, obsessive pulsating sequence—the Dark Side of minimalism.

Ictus en Index Ensemble (het nieuwe Friuli Venezia Giulia ensemble), bundelen opnieuw de krachten om de volledige visionaire dimensie van Fausto Romitelli’s werk te onthullen. Amok Koma, Seascape en Trash TV Trance: drie bevreemdende, climax gedreven werken, gecomponeerd rond de eeuwwisseling, toen een nieuwe atmosfeer in de klassieke muziek opdook – op het explosieve snijvlak van hedendaagse compositie, computermuziek en popcultuur - als een hoge drukkamer die op het punt staat te ontploffen.

Achtervolgd door de wereld van David Lynch slaagde de componist uit Gorizia erin een van de meest duizelingwekkende muzikale gestes te vatten: het inzoomen op de essentie van de materie totdat je botst op de ruis van het Zijn – altijd, in zekere zin, diabolisch. Toch plaatsen de fysieke energie, de ontembare verbeeldingskracht en de honger naar verrassing die Romitelli’s werk bezielen zijn esthetiek mijlenver van elke melancholie.

Amok Koma, Seascape et Trash TV Trance : trois œuvres étranges et paroxystiques, écrites au tournant du millénaire, lorsqu’une atmosphère inédite commençait à émerger dans les milieux classiques, à l’intersection de la musique contemporaine, de l’informatique musicale et de la culture pop — comme une cocotte-minute prête à exploser.

Hanté par l’univers de David Lynch, le compositeur de Gorizia est parvenu à restituer en musique ce geste vertigineux : zoomer au cœur de la matière jusqu’à y sonder le bruit de fond de l’être — toujours intrinsèquement diabolique. L’énergie physique, la fantaisie et le goût de la surprise placent pourtant l’esthétique romitellienne aux antipodes de la dépression.
