Martinez Orio website
I am Rubén Orio (Logroño, 1988), percussionist based in Brussels. My work covers what we called contemporary music. Around this terminology used to delimit the new music, I am interested in musical and artistic topics as: how music is presenting to the audience, its meaning, new concert formats, how is related our perception with our listening, the relationship between sound-movement and sound-image, the different materiality of the sound… a lot of questions that leed my work and my approach to this art.
I have been playing in festivals as the Biennale di Venezia, MaerzMusik of Berlin, the 46ºInternationale für Neue Musik Ferienkurse Darmstadt, the Ensemble Akademie of Freiburg with the Ensemble Recherche or the MIXTUR festival of Barcelona. Working with composers as Luis de Pablo, Steve Reich, Pierlugui Billone, Ramon Humet, Michael Maierhof, Jose Manuel Lopez Lopez or Georges Aperguis.
Besides, I combine my work with classical music, having played with orchestras as MCO (Mahler Chamber Orchestra), deFhilarmonie (Royal Flemish Philharmonic) or BOS (Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa)
Related to the pedagogical area of music, as a teacher, I had the opportunity to take part in the SINAEM of Costa Rica. The educational system of youth orchestras that brings the music to the most disadvantaged people.
After finishing my studies in Barcelona (ESMuC) and Rotterdam (CODARTS), I follow the master program of ManaMa, the academy of ICTUS Ensemble.
