Soundspotting is a parcours that offers a playground for perception of space through objects that sound. Through the walk, the spectator will have the opportunity to discover space (Bijloke Campus, Gent) and its sounds, with alternating between spaces occupied with performance or sculptures/installations. A project curated by Dejana Sekulic, performed by GAME (the Gent Advanced Master Ensemble) and students of KASK.
The idea is to offer this exchange through a dialogue between the performer and sculptures/installation, by inhabiting space in their own moments in time and temporality. While the performer (alive being) is becoming the sound object and thus inanimate object itself, and the sculptures/installations (inanimate objects) with their sounding characteristics becoming alive (human), this dialogue between animate and non-animate gives not just a narrative for audience, but possibility to explore “what is all sound?”, “what makes a space?” and their influence on our perception.
Soundspotting is sounds’ theatre stage. It contours and describes the space with sound, as if that space is determined by it, making the sound become a material thing that can be seen and touched - a wall, an object.
Performed pieces include works of Mark Applebaum (Rabbit Hole – European premier and Composition Machine #1), David Helbich (Ohrstücke/No Music), Mauro Lanza (I Funerali dell'Anarchico Acciarito), Sarah Nemtsov (ZIMMER I-III – Belgian premier), Jasna Veličković (world premier)

Noem het een speeltuin voor de waarneming, een museum van gebaren en geluiden. Centraal staat het klankobject. Het publiek gaat op verkenning doorheen verschillende ruimtes waar de grens tussen bezielde en niet-bezielde geluidsbronnen soms erg dun is. Uitvoerders van vlees en bloed worden onderdeel van klinkende machines. Klanksculpturen en installaties krijgen anderzijds haast menselijke trekken wanneer ze speels wiekend geluid voortbrengen. Uiteindelijk wordt de ruimte zelf een klankobject. In de Ohrstücke van David Helbich bijvoorbeeld grijpt het publiek zelf in op het omgevingsgeluid door middel van een georkestreerde oor-acrobatiek.
Soundspotting is doorlopend te bezoeken van 19u00 tot 22u00. Performances en uitvoeringen van composities van onder meer Mark Applebaum en Mauro Lanza vinden plaats op bepaalde tijdstippen vanaf 19u00.
